Inter took on Sassuolo at home in this Sunday’s lunch match in Serie A’s 19th round, a match which means that Inter now has faced all teams in the league once, and that the season has reached the halfway point. In the season’s first 18 matches Inter had collected a total of 39 points, which placed the team in first place. A win against Sassuolo would make sure that the team maintained the position but a win would also maintain the distance to Juventus and Napoli, while the distance to Fiorentina and Roma could be increased as both the latter teams dropped points in this round.
Even though it is anything but official, still not wholly insignificant, the title of Campione d’Inverno (Winter Champion) was at stake. The title does not have any real significance but has often given a hint about which team that will be the Champion when all the matches of the championship have been played. Since Serie A was expanded to 20 teams in 2004/05 the team that has been in the lead halfway through the competition has always won the Scudetto. This season, however, is unusual because four teams had a chance to become Campione d’Inverno before this round, something that has not happened since the season 1990/91. That season Inter were at the top of the table after half the season’s matches had been played, but finished third.
For the first time this season, Inter coach Roberto Mancini opted to start with exactly the same starting eleven in two consecutive matches. The same 4-3-3 that defeated Empoli away got the chance to make sure Inter got away from the match with all three points. Ljajic, Perisic and Icardi were the ones who would ensure that the more than 40,000 in the attendance at the Giuseppe Meazza would get to see goals today.
The first half ended scoreless but the match was by no means boring. Inter started off well, creating a couple of scoring opportunities during the first minutes. First Icardi got the ball from Medel after four minutes but failed to find the back of the net and just seconds later Ljajic got the ball from Icardi but missed what should have been a certain goal for Inter. These two missed chances would prove haunting for Inter today.
In the 9th minute Inter’s D’Ambrosio went down after getting Berardi’s hand in his face. No call was made by referee Doveri, who is infamous for making calls that aren’t in favor of Inter. It seemed as if Berardi’s action was unintenional but at the same time I think we can all remember similar incidents when the referees have had no problems showing red cards to Inter players.
In the 19th minute Inter’s Ljajic got his second great opportunity in front of goal but despite being alone in front of goal he sent the ball high.
Two minutes later Handanovic in Inter’s goal had to make two great saves, one on Missirolli and one on D’Ambrosio’s inadvertent touch. Handanovic’s colleague on the other side of the pitch, Consigli, also proved that, as always, all goalkeepers in Serie A always give their best performances against Inter when he made a great save on a Ljajic’s shot from the edge of the penalty area in the 43rd minute.
In the second half Inter, and especially Ljajic, continued to look for the goal that would give them the lead in the match. Both in the 17th, 40th and 44th minute Consigli made great saves on shots by the Serb.
Considering Inter’s difficulties to break the dead lock there was great hope when we could see Jovetic warming up and possibly entering the pitch but the Montenegrin didn’t enter the pitch until the 41st minute, when the score was still 0-0.
When 90 minutes had been played and 5 minutes of extra time were announced it seemed as if the match was heading for a draw but in the 48th minute Inter got a corner which was wasted as Nagatomo inexplicably passed the ball to Ljajic who was offside. With one minute left of the match Jeison Murillo made an unusual misjudgment and Miranda fouled Defrel in the penalty box, giving Sassuolo the chance to win the match and Berardi made no mistake from eleven meters.
With the loss Inter most likely will not be crowned Campione d’Inverno as Napoli currently dominates Frosinone and went to the half-time break with a comfortable 2-0 lead, a result that sees Maurizio Sarri’s team overtaking the lead and passing Inter by two points. Hopefully, we won’t have to look back at this match as a negative turning point. Hopefully, Inter will bounce back from this and continue to battle for the top spots in a Serie A that is incredibly even. Inter had the opportunity to make a strong statement by winning against Sassuolo and staying in first place after the first 19 matches but failed. This loss shows that Mancini, despite the obvious improvements he’s made to the team, still has a lot of work left to do. Inter finishes the first half of the season with 13 points more than at the same time last season but tonight Sassuolo proved that when a team doesn’t take advantage of its chances it will pay the penalty and tonight Inter paid the penalty.

Two matches again sassoulo and mancini just get 0 point
I miss mazzari “only” in this match LOL
In this match, we just unlucky and stupid last passing by nagatomo effect
It is strange that everyone blame Mancini for his late sub choice. He was taking risk in the final 5 minutes as his decision to let only Guarin and Brozo in the mid, NO defensive mid.
THEN it cost us a counter attack and a penalty.
I mean, Mancini was right. He was waiting until the final 5 minutes to play with full attack as there was no def mid left in the pitch. Everyone hoped for early sub for this but… IMHO, You cant play against counter-attacking team like this in final 15 minutes as this would be too risky. It would be different if they play against ‘parking-the-bus’ team.
All in all, it was just not our lucky day. Forza Inter.
Damn it! I am angry Rube winning and Napoli in great form.
As mad as I am today…. I think a major problem I am seeing as an inter fan is the lack of noise made by the fans in the stadium. Only a few oohs and ahhs when something good happens. When we are winning, silence. When we are drawing, silence. However when we are losing complete havoc and whistles. We should not be like Real Madrid fans were every season we HAVE to win, and every game MUST be won or else the manager is sacked. For example I watched Fiorentina play against Lazio, and they were losing. However the fans of Fiorentina were making more noise than the fans of Inter, even whilst we are winning! That is not on…..
This loss could turn out to be a good wake up call for management to bring a quality midfielder and left fullback, possibly a striker too. It seems like they depend on the sales of Rano and Guaro though. Hope they make their mind quick
I think we should send a serious offer for Sansone, we put three defenders on him… yet he dribbled them like fools. He is Italian, 24 and in my opinion is a better player then Berrardi who did nothing today except score the penalty. However Berrardi is 21 and an Inter fan, one must not forget.
Balde Keita can be a serious option, he warms the bench at Lazio, but last night he got a chance in the starting line up and scored, he is really good we can take him for max 15 mil.
Much agreed, completely forgot about him. He could turn out to be another Ljajic. He has pace, dribbling, young, experience in Serie A, however could work on his finishing. Never the less would be a great signing.
that is the real face of roberto mancini _ THE false flag trainer !
Eh, cmon. You loose some you win some. Keep in mind that we have an extremely new team. Today 6 out of 11 players were NEW.
That is exactly what I am talking about … that loser Mancini has changed the whole team previous trainer left him and he has forgotten to make team play and team itself. He is buying and discarding players and the only person that should be discarded is “his majesty” and ignorant Mancini. Sacchi is absolutely right when he does not give any value to Mancini’s Inter; Inter is no team, no club… That Indonesian moon-like owner is just an ignorant sucker Mancini is making fool of …
1. Inter brought 10 new players this season, lost a few key players. The only other team i know that brought more players than us and survive in the top half this season (and these past few seasons) is that English side, Watford. Juve lost what? 3 or 4 players, gained a few of the most coveted talents in the league and they were having a lot of difficulties and only recently gaining traction. That is a testament to Mancini and Inter management, including the Indonesian owner.
2. Yes Sacchi won all those bells and whistles, yes Sacchi was an instant hit those days, yes Sacchi helped revolutionalise football, but ask yourself this: Could he pull all those feats without those 3 Dutch players? Did he achieve anything in his days as national team coach?
3. Thohir isn’t one of those sugar daddies everyone in football talked about. Basically re-building Inter from scratch, his job includes balancing the reds, offloading faded primadonnas, making new and exciting signings, yadda yadda… He has been steadily improving Inter for short. Making racist remarks about him will never diminish his accomplishment, so shut your yappin’ you rotten meat.
Where is Kondogbia ?!?! “Player genius” is on his way out as Kovacic, Shakiri and other PLAYERS WHO KNOW HOW TO PLAY FOOTBALL have already did before … but that idiot mancini is staying and destroying everything he touches … his ego is enormous, something he proved when he was an average provincial player…

Manicini wasn’t an average player. Mancini was one of the greatest players and he formed a great partnership with Vialli at Sampdoria. A very technically gifted player but I cannot understand his defensive tactics against all teams. Mancini has done a lot already. At least we can see Inter in the top 3. Mourinho has been sacked in the meantime. I have to admit that Rube has something going for them. It simply doesn’t make sense that they keep winning.
Ask national team selector of that time Sacchi about his so-called qualities. mancini was ultimately demanded Sacchi to take precedence over JUve player Roberto Baggio ?!?! and to have guaranteed place in the first team ?!?! Of course, Sacchi was not an idiot to listen to him… mancini is just a spoiled and limited provincial guy who doesn’t know what he is doing, well he is not a bad actor, but he was thrown out from City and Turkish club, until he has found that ignorant monkey from Indonesia.
Oh calm down. I didn’t have much faith in Mancini myself but I dare say it is better to lose to Sassoulo 1-0 than win against them 7-0 and lose most other matches like we did with Mazzari. Mancini has charisma and guts. No other coach in his right mind would have come back to Inter after 4 years of non stop bs losses. We were not even considered a mid team table and he has brought Inter to where it belongs. All is not lost.
Mancini has charisma and guts. —————————- yes, he was thrown out yet from another club after mcity…. guts to come back to inter and act like a self-proclaimed “big manager” ?
You call inter president a monkey? Man you are not better than agnelli, go to rube fans you monkey piece of shit!!!!

hay muslim terrorist, anything to rape ?
shut up islamist idiot !
And Napoli 5-0 up on 70′
Bring a fuckin midfielder pls
Much agreed, I believe that the likes of Biglia, Banega etc.. could really lift the team. The acquire of two good fullbacks would not hurt.
Biglia is exactly what we need, idk if Banega is that good as a CM, he usually plays CAM and we look better in 4-3-3
True… however we can Banega for FREE, unlike Biglias….. 25 MILLION PRICE TAG.
I do not agree with the rating given to Inter. We played extremely well, however were extremely unlucky as Consigli played the match of his life. Stupid Naga mistake led to penalty, goal by a player who should have been shown red. Eh, what can you do.
I am with you!. The team played well. That was not an ugly and boring play like few matches before. Their GK was just awesome this time.
