It seems as if Inter have made Sampdoria midfielder Roberto Soriano at the top of their wishlist for the January transfer window. Should Fredy Guarin move to China, it seems probable that Soriano will join Inter as there are ongoing talks between the clubs. Today I will be analyzing Roberto Soriano’s performances, as well as giving my insight on how the Italian international can help the Nerazzurri
2014/15 season
Sampdoria had a fantastic season under Sinisa Mihajlovic last season. The Genovese club finished 11 points higher than the season before, and even achieved a high point tally than Inter. This was thanks to an attractive and solid style of play. Roberto Soriano was arguably Sampdoria’s best player last season along with Eder. Soriano’s consistent and bright performances caught the eye of Antonio Conte, as he debuted for Italy against Croatia in September of 2014. Soriano scored 4 goals and assisted 2 last season, but his box to box work rate and creativity made a huge impact for Sampdoria.
2015/16 season
Roberto Soriano has truly taken a step up from last season. In a struggling Sampdoria team, the midfielder has scored 6 goals and set up 4. This season he has averaged 38 (Whoscored) passes a game. In the match against Inter Soriano proved to be a constant threat. His surging runs from midfield and vision caused Inter problems. Throughout this campaign Roberto Soriano has really stepped up during a difficult period for his club. His leadership and quality make a big difference
How he would fit at Inter
Roberto Mancini has used rather unorthodox methods to get Inter to where they currently are. It is pretty obvious that this team lacks creativity, and a midfielder who can distribute the ball well. Gary Medel does not provide the team with much creativity, as his role is more of a ball-winners’. Geoffrey Kondogbia is yet to live up to his 35 million euro pricetag, however he is showing signs of improvement. Marcelo Brozovic hit a great run of form towards the end of 2015, but now he is struggling to express himself. Right now Inter have quality midfielders, but Soriano would add that extra element. The Italian’s pace, vision, and work-rate would be a major bonus for any team to have. Soriano’s arrival could prevent Inter’s attackers from dropping so deep to receive possession due to the fact that he distributes the ball so well. Overall, Roberto Soriano would be an excellent signing for Inter, and hopefully Ausilio can strike a deal!

Yep – a true quality player, and still only 24 if I’m not mistaken!
I think he would make our midfield stronger right away. He kind of fits to the blueprint that Mancini is insisting. And yes he is better than Guarin.
I Don’t understand you fans….when inter purchased a guy that I never heard of from a weaker league (in fact I never watched 1 highlight until he made it to Italy) for an absurd amount of 40 million Inter fans were excited like this guy was going to make this team a winner………so when inter fans like him then he definitely sucks. Now you got Soriano which in my opinion if I had to spend 15 mill on a midfielder I would rather have Napoli’s Allan but 15 mill for Soriano is fair but I read so much skepticism……when inter fans are skeptical that means he’s half decent.
I would take him only if they take Rannocchia. Ranno + 5 mil.
it seems most fans aren’t coy on Soriano, but for the transfer options Inter currently have at their disposal, I don’t see too many, if any at all, better than him. How many other players can we buy that have the skill set we need, is already accustomed to Serie A and could/should have an immediate impact, is and has already performed in Serie A, currently averaging a point every other game so far this season, and would only cost us anywhere from €10-15 mil depending on the possible inclusion of Ranocchia in the transfer, a player everyone and their mother would love to get rid of?
I think if we can somehow get a straight swap of him with both Rano and Dodo, it’ll be a win for us.
Ausilio is good, Idk if he’s that good tho lol
If we’re going to aim high, Champions League spot this season, good performance next year in Champions League and fight for Scudetto. In my opinion i could say that Soriano is not the right guy. He has 10 goals and 6 assist for season and a half, he’s decent player and nothing special. I don’t see him to be better than Brozovic and we desperately need regista, someone who can make the difference, someone like Gundogan or similar.
got your point CL deserves better players, in the last 2 games we saw Ljajić playing as CAM and I think he does fine, but who can replace him or who can teach him more? cause Soriano well I’m not convinced yet-
You’re right we need someone next step up, world class. Soriano looks decent but not the next level
not really happy with this 15m we are gonna spend, might be another palombo or poli
He is way better than those guys.
poli was good to remember?
just saw his youtube video from last season, but from the way I see it he is like an upgrade-ted version of Brozo, nothing special, I would rather to get Eder or why not Mertens…
His playing style reminds me of Dejan Stankovic, but not that good. He’s smart and a hard working team player.
Eder is old and Mertens sucks. My dream is Lamela for the wings.
Lamela is inconsistent in tottenham mate, and i am not sure we can get discount from daniel levy, he is like EPL ADL
They said the same about JoJo and let’s not forget Ausilio’s magic wand.
The difference mate, pellegrini didnt want jovetic in the team anymore, but lamela is starting 11 for pochetino,
You mean Mancini’s magic cattle prod right? the one he uses to zap his sporting clerk Ausilio to get him what he asks for
mertens is good
He is average.
mad dribbler
Nah he’s really good
What’s perisic if mertens is average
Come on man! Perisic is far better than likes of Mertens. He runs tirelessly, helps in defence and a smart team player with great crosses. But yeah, he is not a great dribbler.
Perisic is way to average but Mertens is good, of course there are better players but he certainly can make a difference!
in fact he is really great, he can play perfectly in our team as he knows Seria A, currently he is the replacement of Insigne but if we get him certainly will make a difference, -_- but I know we won’t get him!
if we are going to play 4-2-3-1 soriano isn’t the right guy
Why not man?
In 4-2-3-1 he can play amf and lmf
In 4-3-3 he can play cmf
The real question is he good enough to boost our squad performance?
even in this article the author said that he is box to box, he can’t play as a veritable CAM, he is good as a CM
From what i saw from sampdoria matches, soriano did play as cam and have an eye for a goal, but depends to the striker, like when he played with cassano he made two goals in that match, this guy is good, for me his transfer price is not overpriced for 15 mil, just look at bertolacci,i am sure soriano is better than him but he cost milan 20 mil
