Maaroufi

Bizarre coincidence regarding a former Inter youth player, midfielder Ibrahim Maaroufi and the Brussels bombing March 22nd. One of the terrorists, Khalid El Bakraoui used the false identity of Maaroufi to cross Italian security checks when on his way to Belgium and the Maelbeek Metro station.

Maaroufi is from Belgium and it seems that El Bakraoui has been using his identity for quite a while. Maaroufi only played two official games for Inter, one in the league and one in the cup before he left in 2009 for Vicenza. His senior football career never really took off and the now 27-year old is now without a contract. He has not been reached to comment on the theft of his identity.
