Pioli

Stefano Pioli spoke with Sky Sport and commented on his first derby:

Still growing: “We made some mistakes, there are a lot of things we can improve. I’m really happy with the spirit of the team and the fight they put up. A sign of strength to recover from two deficits. There are a lot of positive things but almost as many negative that we have to work on even more in order to get to the top of the table.”

About the team: “We are a team of technical and moral value, I’m happy for the boys. I expected a match with a lot of spirit. I saw more positive things than negative, but we must have greater determination and ruthlessness when it comes to taking advantage of our opportunities. Too few goals if we look at our chances and too many conceded if we look at the opportunities of Milan.”

The relationship with Candreva: ” There is no problem with Antonio, the situation has changed. He’s a great player and a professional. I found him, as well as the rest of the team, much willing to get Inter back to where the team belongs. The past is the past and now everybody has the possibility to make something good.”

Champions League: “We have to think that Inter is a team that doesn’t belong at this position in the standings. Before thinking of the Champions League, we have to work hard and think of one game at a time.”

What didn’t you like: I wanted an offensive team and from that point of view we did well. We could have done better defending one-against-one and to cover the pitch better in the non possessive phase. Kondogbia and Joao Mario could have defended better, there are some situations where we have to do better. But we created a lot of opportunities, we just have to be more clinical when we finish.

Icardi? “We have to attack better in order to get more players around him, it was a tough game for him. When we have possession of the ball we have to pass faster in order to create chances for him, today we were too slow passing the ball.”

About the midfield: “I wanted an offensive midfield, I chose Kondogbia in order to match the physicality of Kucka. I wanted a dynamic midfield that didn’t give the opponents any room. Joao Mario is a really intelligent player that can play any position. Sometimes we were out of our positions, not because of the  players but because we wanted to score.”

Pioli ended the interview with reveiling who brought him to Inter: “Ausilio called me, I’m really happy with the atmosphere here, it’s perfect and in every aspect perfect for doing good work.”
