Inter coach Stefano Pioli talked to Sky after the 2-0 victory against Genoa, this is what he had to say:

“For the first 30 minutes we didn’t play well while Genoa were in control. I thought that they would change their defence when we started with three attackers, but they didn’t. This is a trying time, and we have to be more compact and we have to fight more. Today I saw that spirit, the spirit we have to have in order to grow as a team. Nagatomo were in difficulties against Lazovic, but for the first 30 minutes we should have paid more attention covering our last third. There are some mistakes which we have to avoid, we are a good team but we can’t be lazy. Playing defence means to react and to react with intensity because if we lose focus just for a second the attackers will use that.”

About Joao Mario: “Joao Mario has great technical skills, I would like him to use his speed more though, not only in the offensive phase but when we play defence as well. I don’t like to speak of different formations, it depends on the team and our opponents. Today I chose two midfielders that are better in the build-up phase rather than the defensive one in order to play possessive football and to make their defence suffer.”

“Gabigol? There isn’t much to talk about, he’s doing his job and the last couple of weeks he has shown his qualities, but I want the perfect balance for this team. He comes from Brazil and he needs some time. The club has invested a lot in this guy and in the future he will prove himself. The three-man defence we used against Fiorentina. I think the challenges on the pitch and our ideas are clear, therefore I try to get the team to master both phases of the game.”
