After the game against Sassuolo, Stefano Pioli commented the win at the press conference. First topic was the expulsion of Felipe Melo, a decision that the Inter coach didn’t agree with: “I think the second yellow card was a bit exaggerated, but Melo cannot be that obvious when Joao Mario got a booking that leaves him out of the Lazio game. Melo did what I expected from him, the first booking came from a situation he could have avoided, then he gets the second yellow card.”

The defence held up well. “We hadn’t won away since September, there are some situations I’m not so happy with but I saw a great spirit and the players sacrificed themselves and wanted to win an important game. Now we have to think about the next game that, like all of our games now, is very important. Lazio is in front of us and it will be crucial to gain some points on the teams in the top.”

Why did you change the positions of Murillo and Miranda? “I talked to them and in the national team, Miranda plays centre left. Murillo is perhaps more comfortable on the right. In defence the tasks remain the same, I made my choice due to the construction of the game.”

Gabigol came on for the final minutes. “He’s doing well as the rest of his teammates. I thought he was ready for the final minutes, few but important ones.”

Mercato? “We are working to become a team, from our last performances I have seen some positive things. But we need the results, like we did today. Now there’s another game on Wednesday and we have to keep both our feet on the ground. There will be some players leaving the team, there are too many players on the roster now and the club has to respect the Fifa Financial Fair Play rules. Jovetic? The club already has commented on this matter, I chose the players that can contribute the most to the team.”
