Before tonight’s game against Sampdoria, Sporting Director Piero Ausilio spoke to Premium Sport about tonight’s match but also about the possibilities for the club and the upcoming mercato.
You spoke with Ferrero and Romei, is this the ground work for Schick? “We talked about movies… Ferrero is a lot of fun and is a nice guy. Also very good at what he’s doing at Sampdoria. We spoke about a lot of things, but not the mercato”.
Will there be fireworks this mercato as the fans expect? “It will be a serious mercato, I don’t like to talk about things I can’t make happen. It will be a mercato with focus on reinforcing the squad with quality, competitiveness and with values. We will not get top players but players that will fit in well with our project. There is still nine games to play, they have to start from the current roster. Then we will sum everything up. We have our ideas, but then there have to be teams that sell and teams that buy”.
Defense reinforcements are the most critical ones? “When you talk about a strong team, you have to be strong at the back. In that aspect we have improved, you can see the work of Pioli. Pulling back Medel gave us solidity, but if the chances come up we have to be there”.
Will you have a budget of 150 million? “We haven’t talked about a budget. We have to be careful of the eyes of UEFA. We will have a quality mercato, but the numbers have to make sense. Then you can spend more or less”.
Inter fans have come closer to the team, is that thanks to the club and it’s possibilities, Pioli and his work or something else? “Again, there is this seriousness of the group that came to Milan with a concrete idea. They learned and has eight months of experience. But they have accomplished since they have come. Players, technical staff, management, all chosen from an idea. I have always had confidence in these guys, I feel part of a project and if I could continue to follow this project I would be happy. I have to work hard in order to help Inter return to win, which is all that we want”.
Does the future of Pioli depend on the 3rd spot? “Absolutely no, The work of Pioli has been amazing, he gave us the results we needed. You can loose a game but that doesn’t mean that you throw everything away. We have nine finals coming up, we will give everything we have, although we have good squads ahead of us. But nothing will take away the work of Pioli and his staff and where they have taken us”.

We are having problems qualifying for Europa League. Ok, granted we are only 3 points from atlanta, but we are now 1 point ahead of Milan. So the plan should be to continue focus on chasing Atalanta and staying ahead of Milan now. If we can’t get ahead of them. what players will want to come??? I trust Suning and I hope they get the best players. As for now, we will always be a “project” club

And everyone in Europe knows about the project Suning has in mind and all the agents knows about it – An agent stated yesterday that the Suning project is a very serius one and a project many players would be interested to be a part of and that only Inter in Italy can afford to splash out 100mil for the young striker from Monaco; Mbappe. He said also that Inter will be the only anti-Juve in next year!
My point: a serious project with a super rich owner can attract VERY strong players from all over Europe – not Messi maybe, but VERY strong players!
