After a long, long time Inter coach Stefano Pioli finally made it to the press:

“We have to evaluate, what exactly happened in the second half. My explanation? That the team we saw in the second half wasn’t my team. Today we played well for a half then we had a black-out. Now we just have to finish the championship in the best way we can, today we were awful. If I feel my position has been compromised? I feel responsible for today’s result, and for the recent results. As do the players”.

But what happened after the Atalanta game? Individual errors? “We didn’t have the continuity and the mental approach we need to win the tough games. We made errors we ususally not do and we suffered a lot mentally from the loss against Sampdoria. But that doesn’t stop the fact that we are Inter and we can’t perform like this. We hit rock bottom in the second half and for the remainder of the championship we have to show that we are better than that.”

Five games to save your position? “I focus on the present, things change from time to time. One month ago I was a great coach, now people judge me differently. Now we have to regain the credibility we lost today.”

How will you react to this? “Motivate the players, make them understand that we are a prestigious club. That the championship still isn’t finished, today we had our worst performance of the season and we have to make people understand that we are a club and a team with greater values.”

Why did we see two kinds of Inter in the first and the second half? “This is the negative aspect at the moment. For a while we were controlling the game then it seemed like we couldn’t react to the difficulties we ended up in. The teams that knows how to stay compact when they are under pressure perform the best. This is an aspect where we have to improve.”
