A new experience, certainly different from the last, for many reasons, going from manager of Empoli to perhaps the humblest and courageous decision as to join Luciano Spalletti’s staff – Giovanni Martusciello. The former Empoli manager, decided to embark this new path to Inter above all, the will and the absolute motivation to grow and be complete, as he stated in a exclusive interview with FcInterNews.com:
New adventure in a top club like Inter: What are the first feelings?
“I am very happy, it would be absurd not to be. By now a not everyone expected to see me at Inter for a long time there was talk of my arrival with the coach. As mentioned, in addition to being very happy, I am extremely motivated for the possibility of working alongside someone like Luciano, against whom I have deep professional respect as well as affection as we’ve known each other for many years. So I could never decline his call, I jumped at the chance.”
In particular, what will be your precise role?
“I will take part of the staff as a technical collaborator, I will be at the full disposal of the coach and the team. In the days before the arrival in Brunico we had a meeting where we planned all the details of the case.”
What led you to step down as head coach, in addition to Series A, for an assignment of this type?
“Because I think it is necessary for me to do something in order to complete me as a coach. I still have to grow and improve. There are still many things to learn in this job, so I had no problem accepting. As they say, in my life and in my career I have not bitten off more than I can chew. I arrived at a top club and a great coaching staff, I was fortunate to work with Luciano for three years and that has been fantastic for both – for me as a player and for him as a coach. Now I’m curious to get involved in this new adventure, definitely the right step for me. Then, for the future, the goal is to return to coach in Serie A – This I will not deny.”
Speaking about the owners, did the Suning Group stand tall despite the few hours of work you had with them, have you already grasped the importance of this project?
“I should not be able to emphasize the value of a club so large, however, certainly: I was struck by the absolute motivation of the owners to get back at the top in a short period of time. This is crucial also for the fans. They focus their attention on working so big, but at the same time, intelligently. We will see what the results, we can not talk about the title, but certainly the potential to greatly improve there. This must be our goal: work our best in order to grow.”
What have you seen in the early workout sessions with Spalletti?
“Luciano we all know, his career speaks for itself, but what will hit the Nerazzurri world is the human aspect of him: a transparent person and great generosity, you’ll know very soon. Then, technically and tactically speaking, he is a true scholar who lives 24 hours of football. He, like me, always wants to learn new details, aspects and nuances previously unknown. I think that’s why during his career he has made a difference. He is not changed, as a young man he thought and worked in this way. He wants to learn. Learn, learn and learn. As much as possible and by all means necessary.”
When was the first contact between you and Inter?
“Exactly four days after relegation with Empoli. The following Thursday he called the coach, we met and we decided to start.”
