As part of the Sky Sport programme “Calciomercato – L’origine”, Sporting Director of Inter, Piero Ausilio had his say about Inter’s current mercato:
When will Colidio arrive? “We can’t confirm the deal because it is not yet completed. There is a great chance of completing it, but not until January because of some minor things.”
What about all these youngster? “We have always worked a lot with the youngsters and there are a lot of them currently playing in the Seria A that started and grew as players in Inter. We have identified the young talents and we want to anticipate the market because prices, even on young players, are getting higher and higher. We hope to have approached it well, but I am certain of it.”
The passage from younger to older? “That is the fun part. With the youngsters the satisfaction is huge, you can see the progress every day. Then when they go as far as the first team, the satisfaction is even greater. I have always had good and prepared people by my side and I have seen a lot of youngsters becoming more important.”
Your relationship with money? “A good one, they mean an opportunity to live well and to make good things for the people you want the best for. I am actually a genereous guy. It is important, but I don’t always think about making money I like to spend money as well.”
Why did we chose Spalletti? “He is a great coach. And that is enough to understand our motives for getting him. I have gotten to know him better during these last months, before I never had the privilege to meet him. He is already at it, motivated and assimilated to the life of Inter. I am convinced he is the right person. To all the Inter fans I can only say that you are relying on a person that knows what he is doing.”
Did you expect a Spalletti so dedicated from now on? “He is a very serious and honest person. He knows what he is talking about and he knows what names we are thinking about. We don’t bring anxiety upon us in order to close deals fast. We have a great foundation of quality, not to reconstruct but to improve. We know where we have to improve and I am sure of that come August 31st we will have the Inter that we wanted to create.”
Nainggolan? “I know little about him, I follow his story just like everybody else. I have to think about us and the problems we have and how we can improve this team and what we can do in order to be ready for what the market can offer. Up until now, Nainggolan never has been a player out on the market and we have to respect that. My concern is Inter not Roma.”
How do you work with the Chinese? “They are very reserved, very serious and they believe in this project that is far from completed. They are a solid group that that want to construct an Inter that will last for a long time. Our characteristics are diverse because we come from different cultures, but this I think will only bring positive things to Inter. A club that is attentive to technical and managerial aspects is a club that lasts.”
Is it true that when they invest outside of China they seem to be very careful of how much they spend? “They are very careful and want to have a plan. That is the foundation of their success. It worked for them in China and they don’t seem to see any reason to abandon that kind of mentality. Suning has had a lot of success in different areas and wants to repeat that in the world of football, but you can’t make things happen in a year. This group will bring Inter back to the glory days.”
Will a big name arrive? “Dreaming is beautiful because it could become a reality. In my world there are other aspects: You construct a team with logics, that is what we want to do. With this mindset you have to count of the logic of the group. You can’t bring a player that makes 3-4 times as much as our best player. This, however, doesn’t exclude opportunities when we can improve our team. It’s all about evaluating young players and top players who can find another dimension at Inter.”
Gabigol? “This is not a rare thing that has happened to us and who brought us a bit of frustration. He arrived from a totally different championship, were he is facing complications both regarding environment and tactics. The Brazilian way of playing is much more individualistic with respect to ours. And he needs to grow on a physical level as well and he puts down the hours and he does it well. He has the will to improve and to become important. We just have to understand which path is the best for him in order to grow as a player. We have to make him an Inter player. Maybe the best way to do that is to find a loan deal, together with Spalletti we will evaluate the situation.”
Dalbert? There are discussions currently taking place, we have shown our interest. But the path is long, because Nice doesn’t want to sell him. We need to have patience and we need to find the right strategy. And foremost, we have to respect what Nice wants.”
Perisic-Manchester United? “We are not there yet, here he is performing very well. We haven’t even considered ehat they have offered yet.”
Jovetic? “Nothing new there.”
Saying to Spalletti that he can’t get what he wants? “No lead is abandoned yet. Every position has a name, we have our choice for every role. Come August 31st, Inter will be competitive and strong.”
