Inter player Joao Mario stopped to talk to Inter Channel after the 3-0 victory against Fiorentina in the home opener of the Serie A: “We started really well with a team with an identity that wanted to play. We played exactly how we have played during practice this week. I entered the pitch in order to help the team out and I am happy with my performance. I want to learn more and follow Mister’s orders. If I compare with last season it is obvious that we know each other better this season. We want to finish amongst the top 4, it will be difficult but we will fight until the end”.

Like Mario a lot – really superb player. But he´s not an attacking midfielder and never will be. He´s a central midfielder who loves to go forward – that´s where he´s brilliant not close to the goal then he simply gets “confused” – Kovacic-style!!
Even though you are right, I hope that you are wrong. Lol… Mario has to start scoring for us if he wants to be an AM. But nevertheless he’s the best we have for AM role… unless Barbosa emerges….
Dalbert starting over Nagatomo once hes settled and JM starting over Brozo and we pretty much have a defined starting XI. The only topic for discussion should be Gaglia or Vecino.
Naga had a good game tbh
really? he got tunneled twice, misplaced a cross in the viola box after superb work from perisic, failed to control mulriple simple passes, and even got wrong some passes back to the defence. like i said before, if you will givd me 1000 chances to cross i will also get a good one every now and then.
Yup, both he slowly became his former self in the second half and I doubt he can string many of such better games together. Sooner or later Dalbert will have to step up.
And Gaglia for Vecino…
I already mentioned Gagliardini or Vecino, and I’m not convinced by Cancelo yet, we will have to see how he does.
And soon we might need to discuss dambrosio / candy vs. Concelo
We played better when he came on no doubt, valero was pretty poor tbh.
As much as i hate saying it, then Gagliardini or even Brozovic has to start with Vecino as CM. Then one of Mario/Valero as AM.
Valero isnt good enough defensively to play CM in a 2 man midfield.
Valero is class, played great today
You must have been watching a different game than me then.
Poor might be saying too much though, but he wasnt great thats for sure. Especially in the second half he looked completely out of it.
Apart from Dumbo and Brozovic he was probably the “worst” Inter player.
He watched another game
Valero and Vecino were superb, plus Skriniar (a wall!!) ..
I disagree, Have to partially give it to Azzkikr on this one. Vecino as really passive. Did very little to help our midfield absorb the pressure and gave up the possesion to Fiorentina.
Borja did try and he was OK, but too many times, the Fiorentina attackers ran pass by him. We played so much better when Mario came in.
Don’t mind him.. he watching Crotone vs BBilan
vecino worse than valero this game except his passing. vecino passing % was high but he also lost ball and lost duel to opposition many times. in fact gagliardini and JM did better job than all of the starting lineup midfilder
Wrong wrong wrong, None of Gaglia and Vecino can control the tempo and distribute the ball. It should be Borja, and then Mario as a replacement for his role. That’s what MArio was doing up until when Brozo subbed out and Mario became an AM.
Our trio should be Borja, Gaglia (DMs) and Mario as AM.
Valero is not a DM, he can’t defend ffs, that’s the whole point.
Nor was Pirlo, but doesn’t mean that he can’t be placed as a regista. That’s why we need a strong physical DM next to him. That’s why I was saying Kdog with all his flaws was best suited to start next to him among all of our mids..
Pirlo never played in a 2 man midfield.
He was surrounded by midfielders who knew how to defend both at milan playing 4321 & at Rube playing 352.
Valero only has one partner who has to make up for his defensive lacking, thats not enough,
We didn’t really play 4-2-3-1 though… For defensive plays we would become 4-3-3, and that’s why Spal preferred Brozo over Mario who simply had the legs to cover the ground. Although I believe Mario also has the legs to take on such task…
I also rate 32 year old Borja’s defensive abilities far higher than 36 year old Pirlo at the time.
in second half maybe, when he got tired, but you have to remember it’s the first match of the season and he’s not younger, so we need to give him time to get to the full fitness level before judging him as he was good in the first have when with fresh legs
It doesn’t matter, he has never been good at defending.
I’ve been saying this from before he even joined.
The defensive aspects are the weakest part of his game.
