Luciano Spalletti spoke in the post match press conference at the San Siro after seeing his side draw at home to Crotone 1-1.
The Inter manager was asked if he believed that many certainties have fallen from his side and if he was the only thing left to salvage at the moment?: “No, the players are. I must accept my responsibilities if they are not working right, because if like tonight we put on a negative display and we are in the middle of spell that is plagued with difficulty, I am responsible because I have not created a context in which they can express the best of themselves. Previously they had done well. If this fragility is a sign that I have made some wrong decisions it remains my responsibility. We can’t hide from it.”
Seeing their second half performance, do you think Karamoh and Rafinha can help this team?
“Yes, as they did tonight. Karamoh has great pace and quality, but he still needs to develop more to his game. When He has no continuity in his play, he burns himself out quickly. I am convinced that the team can not support a player like him at the moment as he can’t provide continuity within a match, because his direct approach will lead the team to suffer even more. Rafinha does not have 90 minutes in his legs yet, but he can help us. Our goal must be to return to winning ways, but our self-esteem has taken a hit. We have to go back to basics and slowly build confidence again. Several of our players are out of form, but bringing them back on form is up to me.”
What needs to change?
“To win a few games, if you do not do it, we will not reach the top four, we need the results, the three points, but above all, find the level of quality that the team has within them”.
To get out of this situation does the team need a tactical change or recover their competitiveness?
“We need both. Even if we try a tactical change the players must be able to carry it forward, we can try to put two forwards upfront, but in doing so you put Mauro (Icardi) at a disadvantage as he works best on his own. We could play with a diamond formation as we did in the second half today, but to make Mauro play this way means creating difficulties for him. We have to find a solution that brings the best out of the players, otherwise it becomes difficult “.
1. So the reason not starting Rafinha and Karamoh is just because they cannot play for 90 min? well, here is an idea, play them and sub them later if needed! Candreva has never been able to finish an entire game without losing his breath so just swap it around Candreva on the bench, Karamoh/Cancelo/Rafinha starts and sub them in the second half..
2. What needs to change? winning games… ahhh you’re right Spalletti.. why couldn’t have we think of that before… the quality within the team should not be limited to your ‘permanent’ starting line up.
3. It appears that tactical changes is a one-player-dependent decision.. the team revolves around Icardi.. is that Icardi’s fault of the coaches fault I don’t know. but I do know that some successful teams can play this way, revolving a round a particular player in field, but that player needs to be a world class player that can build and dictates play (Messi, Hazard, Zidane for an example) not the striker.. These last few matches are the result of us being to dependent on Icardi’s special one-chance-one-goal attribute.. we forgot how to play the ball, and that is really sad..
Candi-Perisic need to be bench. Teach them a lesson. They no bigger than Inter.
More than agree.
Its time to change formation, we need two strikers and normal wings, in the form of 4-4-2, because both Perisic and Candreva are dead in term of acting inside the box, and it just gonna provide more chances for Icardi and Eder, plus we don’t need madness from Brozovic, lets just use lads who can defend and pass the ball, nothing beautiful gonna come out from the players we currently have, lets play basic football and hope luck may cross roads with our fate by the end of this season.
Spalla mentions both the possibility of playing with two strikers and a diamond- that could work like with Mancini 1.0, he played 4-3-1-2.
Handa
Cancelo, Skriniar, Miranda,Dalbert/Ambros
Gagliardini
Vecino, Valero
Rafinha
Perisic/ eder,/ pinamonti. Icardi
4312 is crap. Too conservative and predictable. We have wingers, why not play flat 442? Like the old Fergie’s Man UTD, with Cole and Yorke.
maybe. But our wingers ain’t working and that´s our problem right now. Perisic and Candreva are shit and with only two in central mid we will have to play Gagliar and vecino to keep balance…
I think the 4-1-2-1-2 or a 3-5-2 could be a good move.
Idea with 2 strikers sounds good to me.
Not gonna happen.
All in for flat 442. Specially when we’re addicted to crosses from the sides.
Funny how all our coaches for years now have said the same thing talking about a fragile team with fragile mentality.
Mancini said it and wanted experienced players to come in and help out. Pioli said it and got fired and now Spalla.
The team needs a core of players who cares for the club, a core of Italians or Argentins who understands how lucky their are to be at a great club like inter. Not players who only sees Inter as just another football club, like Brozo or Perisic.
Hopefully Spalla knows what to do also tactically, because he needs to change things asap
No Italians please…the ones we can actually get are trash so might as well opt to keep them out the side collectively..but I think it comes down to more than just Nationality…These players doesn’t know what it means to wear an inter shirt. But you know who did? All the average players…like naga and guarin…they played with their hearts but just was never good enough..now we have players who are competent but don’t play with their hearts at all apart from a select few.
I would take Guaro back in a heartbeat, at least he bled for the club and would pull off some nice passes, take on men and could score screamers when in form!
All our Italians included the “new” Italians like Schelotto and Eder are all playing with their hearts – including Rabbi, Santon and Ambrosio but their simply not good enoug. The trick is to get quality players who cares… Juvenile have a core if Italy and and have had for years and Napoli too and that’s something worth building on.
Italian players are so poor, just look at Italian National team. Look at Gaglia, Candreva and Dumb! They play for Inter just because they’re Italian.
Im with u on this one.
F u suning..#suningout
2 Months without a win getting kicked out from copa i mean fuck yeah is your responsibility too
Accept the responsibility and then what? Resigns? Changes anything like formation or starting line up? None.
He says it – at change of formation could help
