The unfortunate circumstances of Faouzi Ghoulam, gave Mario Rui the responsibility of starting left-back at Napoli during their biggest title challenge in recent times, where they are locked in a dog fight with Juventus.

Mario Rui Silva Duarte, Portuguese, born in 1991, is the latest idea to solve Inter left-back problems. Which has seen Yuto Nagatomo, Davide Santon, Danilo D’Ambrosio, Joao Cancelo and Dalbert Henrique alternate with unsatisfactory results. The latter arrived in the Summer from Nice for over €20 million and was meant to fill the role on a permanent basis but his lack of confidence makes him a risk for such an important role, therefore Spalletti has had to experiment.

According to what FcInterNews have learnt, the Nerazzurri have surveyed the situation to gain a better understanding of the possibility of bringing Mario Rui to Milano during the Summer. The former Empoli player is not just a random name either, last year he was part of Luciano Spalletti’s squad at Roma and someone he clearly admires. The Inter coach knows the player well and he’s not to be underestimated.

However, Milan are also being linked to the Portuguese fullback, after the revelation that Massimiliano Mirabelli, the Rossoneri’s Sporting Director, has already spoken to the player himself.  The players agent spoke out yesterday and did not rule out the possibility of his clients departure from Napoli in the Summer: “It hasn’t been decided that he will stay in Naples, we had a meeting in November about it and we already know where we want to be next season”.
