Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport gives an update on the situation of Mauro Icardi. “Wanda, after having made some negative comments, clears the air with a tweet, which originally contradicted Mauro’s own admission for wanting to stay in Milan last Sunday.”

Mauro’s passion is clear to see, after having secured Champions League with Inter, he would like to continue playing with them in the competition. It would take a massive offer from Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG or Bayern to even consider his departure. At the moment, this is unlikely.

A contract is expected to be discussed at the beginning of next week. Inter have long known that in the event of qualifying for the Champions League, they would need to revisit the terms binding their star striker and Ausilio has never hidden it, points out CorSport. However, Wanda wanted to remind everyone, that like two years ago, there is no rush and it should not be a surprise if the renewal is not completed before July 15th, the date that Icardi’s release clause becomes invalid. Speaking of the release clause, in the case of an extension by one or two years (2022 or 2023), it is obvious that it will need to be increased. The aim is to have it at least at 150 million euros, if it will continue to be a fixture of the engagement. The real challenge of the contract is Wanda’s demand of 8 million euros per year in salary which Inter will not be able to simply satisfy, which could be resolved by the use of playing bonuses.
