Steven Zhang is expected to replace Erick Thohir as Inter President when the club holds its next shareholders meeting in October, according to Tuttosport.

Thohir has held the position since completing his takeover of the club in November 2013, when he took up the reins from outgoing president Massimo Moratti, but he has been seeking a way out of the club for over a year as new owners Suning have taken control of Inter’s day-to-day running.

“Steven Zhang has been studying to become the new president,” the Turin-based newspaper wrote on Sunday, “seeing as Inter’s shareholders meeting at the end of October will – barring huge surprises – sanction Thohir’s departure from the club.”

Zhang will be in attendance at the Mapei Stadium on Sunday evening as Inter open their 2018-19 Serie A campaign against Sassuolo, where he is expected to be joined by over 4,000 travelling Nerazzurri supporters.

“The electricity surrounding Inter at the moment is palpable, as you can see from the fact that tonight’s away end is sold out.”
