Over 78.000 spectators are expected for the 169th derby between Inter and Milan. A match that, at least for the moment, will become the most watched game of the season.

This means that Inter will get earn gate receipts of nearly €5 million on this match alone, which is not a surprise since San Siro seems to fill up every time Inter plays nowadays.

Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport highlights this in today’s paper stating that: “In fact, since August, whenever Inter is playing at the San Siro it has been the stadium with the most spectators in Italy. Inter has played 4 Serie A games at home and together with the Champions League game against Tottenham there have been 294.233 spectators, an average of 58.846 spectators per game, an average that will rise to 62.000 after the derby. Of course a very strong start has helped this but it is also driven by the success of selling so many season tickets. In fact, Inter had to stop the sales of season tickets after they reached 37.000 and as of now half of the stadium is already full before the game has even started.”

This increase in attendance has also had an affect on the club’s revenues who according to the Gazzetta “At Inter this fan fever will continue even after the game against Milan, with the 5 games already played, revenues are at €10 million and that number will almost be doubled after the games against Milan and Barcelona. It is almost confirmed that the 78.000 spectators from this Sunday will return when Inter plays Barcelona on November 6th. Everyone wants to go to San Siro.”
