The big match at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district on Sunday night which will be this season’s first derby della Madonnina, is getting closer and closer.

Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport analyzes on their homepage Inter’s style of play and comparing it to AC Milan’s reporting that: “The two teams have rather similar characteristics, with just a few centimeters of difference in terms of the players height, but the first eight matches of the Serie A show that the two teams have different ways in how they serve their strikers, Mauro Icardi and Gonzalo Higuain. Spalletti prefers to build up the team’s attack on the wings and go for crosses, whilst Gattuso plays more a kind of possession football looking for a vertical pass in order to disturb the defense.”

The Gazzetta continue by analyzing the statistical differences between the two sides reporting that: “Up until now, no other team have made as many crosses as Inter have on 201, ahead of Juventus  at 170, Cagliari on 148 and Roma  with 138 crosses. Milan is in 7th place with 121 crosses, proving the difference in how Milan reach their attackers. Gattuso loves to have his team exchange passes, often in a triangular way in order to set up the vertical pass to the attackers or a shot from the outside as Milan is the team that has scored the most from outside the penalty area. That explains Milan’s record of 408 long passes and the pass success rate is at 88%, another record in recent seasons.”
