Inter coach Luciano Spalletti stopped by Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia for an interview shortly after the final whistle in the important win in the derby against AC Milan.

The Nerazzuri coach was happy with the win but still not fully satisfied stating that: “The way the game developed, we wanted a different end to the game, an end where we had managed to score on our chances sooner. We will take this final minute win but we should have scored earlier in the game. Everyone saw the game, we won because we tried more and we had possession on their half of the pitch playing with a high defensive line.”

Did you enjoy this derby?

“No, because I came here tonight in order to work, not to collect my paycheck but instead be part of a plan to make Inter great again and the players have to do the same. I liked what Icardi said during the post match interviews, because he talked about continuity, we have to continue to bring home victories. Inter chose all of us in order to bring back this team to the top level, which this crowd deserves. Now we have to prove that they have chosen well.”

Your ball possession was good tonight?

“This is correct, we wanted to go into a phase where we had possession of the ball by playing a deep lying midfielder and two central midfielders to play next to Biglia, but sometimes we did not manage to do that, because losing the ball means that we need two midfielders to be safe. However, we did great always putting pressure on Biglia, forcing them to make a mistake in their defensive phase which allowed us to have the kind of match we wanted.”

Inter were also better than Milan in getting possession back and they never felt dangerous?

“It is not an easy task, because when you decide to put pressure on the defense all the time, you have to play higher up in the pitch, put pressure on the opponent and not to risk too much when you are up in a one-on-one situation. We did not commit any mistakes and we did not allow them to dribble which is on of their strongest assets.”

How is Nainggolan doing?

“He is still to be evaluated, but he will be out for some time. For now, let us find out his situation.”
