In Wednesday’s game against Spanish side Barcelona, Inter showed that the team has grown and that they can perform well against stronger team although the difference between the two teams was clear.
According to Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Inter needs some spark in midfield and in short, the idea of bringing Modric to Inter was not that bad. So therefore Inter reduce the gap to the biggest clubs in Europe by already having started to prepare for next year’s summer transfer market: “There are still active contacts with the entourage of Luka Modric and Inter have asked to be updated on any development regarding the Croatian who is yet to renew his contract with Real Madrid.”
Corriere continues by identifying Inter’s back-up plan to Modric stating that: “But Inter’s management are preparing alternative plans to strengthen the squad, and a dream is to get Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, although it will be complicated since his value is around €60 million thanks to the interest of Barcelona, Manchester United and Manchester City. Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio is aware of this and that is why his scouts are always around Italy watching games in the Serie A in order to find an alternative. One alternative could be Fiorentina’s Jordan Veretout, this year used as a regista by Fiorentina coach Pioli. Also watch out for Cagliari’s Nicolò Barella and Exequiel Palacios from River Plate.”
