Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport describes tonight’s game between Inter and Spanish side Barcelona as “the richest game ever in Italy” in today’s paper edition of the newspaper.

The previous gate receipt record will be pulverized according to the report: “€5.8 million will go into Inter’s pockets, this is the highest figure an Italian club  has earned when it comes to European and league games, beating the previous record with about €300.000 set last season when Liverpool played Roma in the semifinal of the Champions League.”

“Eight years ago in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal against Barcelona, 80.074 spectators came to the San Siro. This evening there will 73.500 with every Inter designated sector being sold out. In the third tier above the south curve there will be around 800 Barcelona fans out of the 5.500 tickets assigned to the away team. All-in-all super numbers which confirms the enormous interest from Inter fans this year. The €23 million mark in gate receipt revenues has already been surpassed.”

A tifo is planned by Inter’s Curva Nord between the first and second tier and there will be many distinguished guests in the stands: Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Figo, Balotelli and the Mayor of Milano Sala.
