Twenty matches and two goals, between January and June 2015 are Xherdan Shaqiri’s stats during his time with the Nerazzurri before being sold.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the Swiss international speaks about his brief and disappointing time in Milano: “They were some very important months of my career, I could never speak badly of Inter. Many changes were taking place, both on and off the pitch. Many new players arrived and as many left in the Summer. I think of Podolski and Kovacic, it was not easy for Mancini.”

Do you regret your decision to join?

“No. The results were disappointing but that time was important for other reasons. Milano is beautiful, I lived in the centre, only a few steps away from the University and I was very happy there. I could never speak badly of Italy or Inter, the greeting I got from the fans on the day of my arrival was unforgettable.”

What would have changed the outcome of that experience?

“The timing, because I came to Inter at the wrong time. It’s a completely different club today, compared to three years ago, the level has improved massively.”

Could you see yourself back in Italy one day?

“I had fun in Serie A and Italy is amazing but I’m good in Liverpool. Although, in football, you can never be sure.”
