Inter have began to weigh up whether to take up their option to sign Sime Vrsaljko on a permanent basis for €17.5 million according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Croatian fullback has the technical OK from Spalletti and the Inter management, but the series of injuries have put Inter on alert. As a result, they are tracking Manchester United’s Matteo Darmian as a possible replacement if Vrsaljko continues to spend a lot of time on the sidelines.

Darmian can play on both sides, something that makes him a very attractive option. Inter have previously courted him and made an offer for him but were knocked back by Jose Mourinho, who has used the Italian international sporadically.

Darmian’s contract with United is expiring, but the English club has a renewal option. The player himself has expressed his wish to return to Italy and is also appreciated by clubs like Napoli and Roma. In recent days, teams from Spain also have shown some interest in Darmian where Valencia is the last club signing up for the Darmian race. Atletico Madrid have also enquired, something that would suggest Vrsaljko is also out of their plans.
