“Enjoy your game.” This is the phrase that Inter President, Steven Zhang Jr told the team before the game against Tottenham at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district and this, presumably, is what he told the team last night.
At least according to Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport who explains why this has become a pre-game ritual before every European game that Inter plays: “Zhang noticed a certain apprehension, something natural for a team that for the most part were debuting in the biggest club competition there is. Have fun, enjoy the evening, enjoy it without the daily pressure from the championship. The UEFA Champions League is another story, and that phrase has become a ritual as Zhang repeats it before every European game.”
“So go figure if he said it the night before the most important game of the club ever since the Zhang family took over as owners of the club. And it is not superstition, it is a way of communicating, it is a way to get closer to the players during one of the most stressful period in the season, let alone their careers. And as a consequence, the rest will come. If the president, who at the same time has promised an attacking Inter, says that it is best to follow his advice” the Gazzetta concludes.
