Far from perfect is how Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport describes yesterday’s performance of the German referee Felix Zwayer when Inter’s dream of qualifying to the knockout stage went down the drain.

“Two PSV Eindhoven players risked a lot: In the first half there was Angelino, who with great skill, prevented Icardi from behind while in the second half there was Dumfries who risked giving away a penalty by pushing Mauro Icardi (although not that hard) using two hands. Maybe too little to get a penalty for but both situations meant a risk for the players.

“Zwayer showed the yellow card six times, and at times it seemed that he was not actually in the game. 32 free-kicks were given and the first yellow card on Brozovic was correct (bad foul on Lozano), then a yellow for the goalkeeper Zoet (wasting time), Politano and Bergwijn in a small scuffle, then Dumfries for a tactical foul and finally Milan Skriniar for protesting.”
