According to Tuttosport, Tuesday’s disappointment has left Beppe Marotta with a big mission. He must find another Icardi, but one who can play in midfield who can add a good number of goals.

Out of Inter’s six goals in the Champions League, which isn’t that many, four of them came from Mauro Icardi with Matias Vecino and Radja Nainggolan scoring the others. Inter might have more goal scorers in Serie A but these facts highlight the difference in quality that you face in European competitions.

Kwadwo Asamoah and Lautaro Martinez might not have been impressive on Tuesday night but they are still very good additions to the squad. Inter do not need to revolutionise the squad but Marotta and Piero Ausilio need to focus on adding more players who have European experience, while staying within the limits of financial fair play.

For instance, Adrien Rabiot, Aaron Ramsey, Juan Mata and Cesc Fabregas are a list of players who fit this criteria. Although, should Inter get past financial fair play, Suning’s resources would allow Marotta to chase targets such as Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Federico Chiesa. Young players, with experience in Italy and the potential to add multiple goals and relieve some of the pressure on Mauro Icardi.
