What is the future of the Meazza stadium? The two Milan teams, Inter and AC Milan, are currently looking at a shared solution and the options that are on the table are varied.

In particular, there are three options being evaluated at the moment Milano based newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport explains: “Modernizing Meazza, removing the third tier and going down to a capacity of 60-65 thousand spectators, building a new stadium on the site of Meazza thereby taking advantage of of the areas near the stadium today in order to set up a new area together, and finally setting the new stadium up in a completely new area which could be Sesto San Giovanni.”

The city of Milan, who owns the Meazza and who is currently leasing it to the two clubs, has very clear ideas: “The city of Milan does not want the two teams to leave the San Siro area, where the underground stop was build in front of the stadium, operational since 2015. This is why the mayor himself, in recent days and in response to the words of Gazidis said “building the new stadium adjacent to San Siro would not hurt us and would be a good alternative.” All options remain open, without forgetting that there already is concrete project on how to modernize Meazza.

In the case of a new stadium “There could be more certainty about the final result compared to the difficult modernization of the current stadium and the site would be right next to the current Meazza without causing any problems for the teams. This is why this option is more attractive. An option to this is to throw back the ex-Falck area in Sesto San Giovanni into the race, this would speed up things since the area is private and the commercial licenses are already there. Both teams act fast, they just have to choose what path to take.”
