The “Golden Boy” awards ceremony in Turin was the backdrop of the “cease fire” between Beppe Marotta and Pavel Nedved. After the attacks of the Czech and the response from the newly appointed Inter manager, both clubs have tried to take the “fight” to a more diplomatic level. Gazzetta dello Sport however remain unconvinced about this.

“You can not pretend that nothing has happened, both on Saturday in Turin and yesterday in Nyon, Nedved used a harsh tone and there was no sign of irony in his words. He also said that his pre-derby comments on Marotta was not a joke. Maybe the attorney Agnelli would have managed this differently with superior confidence, bu that is another point. The question is why Juventus felt the need to hit Marotta during his inauguration days with Inter? Maybe because he felt he needed to distance himself from a manager that went from Juventus to their biggest competitor.

“The explanations of Nedved do not convince either, It is obvious that a player like Paolo Maldini, just to compare, never could take a position at Inter, he was and is a AC Milan “bandiera”, how could he work elsewhere but at AC Milan should he work at the highest levels? And it is obvious that Marotta plays another role at Inter, he has not got a past as a football player and has always worked on managerial levels. He is a director that has worked for several clubs and has not been and will not be anyone’s “bandiera”. The clubs that have hired him have payed him well in order to benefit from his football skills accumulated in a football life. When Marotta was the CEO of Juventus he claimed the Scudettos Juventus no longer have due to Calciopoli. When the contract in Turin ended, he started a new one in Milan.

“Marotta is a director that belongs to the world of professionals, he will have sympathies with the club that currently is paying him and this whole situation suggests that it was actually Juventus that had instructed Nedved to criticise him.”
