Florentino Perez hopes to start the reconstruction of Real Madrid with the signing of Inter captain Mauro Icardi Rome based Corriere dello Sport reports.

According to the report however, this will not be an easy task, despite the €110 million release clause, as Inter do not want to lose their captain and are ready to sit down with Maurito’s agent, his wife, Wanda, to discuss the terms of his contract renewal, so Inter fans may finally rest easy.

The Corriere dello Sport recalls further that before Christmas, tensions between Wanda Icardi and Piero Ausilio were high, with both parties using the media to deliver their ultimatums.

The Nerazzurri ended the month with two wins in the Serie A and will return to training today, with contract talks believed to resume next week. Wanda will most likely want to continue from where she left off, demanding €8 million net, is she agrees to remove a redemption clause from the new contract.

Meanwhile, Inter offered €6 million net plus bonuses and will most likely at least have to compromise by adding another million. The Nerazzurri’s captain’s current contract  expires at the end of June 2021 and there is great confidence in his loyalty to the club, which allows Ausilio and Marotta to bide their time.

However, should things take too long, Florentino Perez is unlikely to be scared of triggering the Argentine’s release clause in order to find a scope for a deal. Alternatively, should Perez want to do it organically, he might be willing to offer Toni Kroos in exchange. So the question is then, would Inter be willing to accept?

The German would no doubt solve all of the Nerazzurri’s midfield problems but would it then leave them with one in attack? At the moment it does not seem like Lautaro is ready to take over from Maurito.
