After the goalless draw at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza against Sassuolo, Inter coach Luciano Spalletti stopped by Italian broadcaster DAZN to share his thoughts on the result and his team’s overall performance.

Difficult game, we saw that you were a bit angry. What did you like the least about the team today?

“A difficult game because Sassuolo played a very good game, we were good in recuperating the ball high up the pitch, but then we have to do better in maintaining an attack. Instead we lost the ball with the team high up the pitch and they could counterattack. I was not angry, I tried to give advice in order to do better but at the end of the day it boils down to not losing the ball after having regained possession of it. We did not seen the difference in quality between the two teams today.”

Still you had a very solid defense, but an isolated Icardi up top. Was this thanks to Sassuolo or a lack of movement on Inter’s part?

“It is obvious that after a 0-0 game you praise the defense and attack the offense. The defense did really good in being compact, something that is difficult. But after we regained possession we failed in creating problems for Sassuolo. On an individual level we failed to live up to what we are capable of. Mauro did not find a lot of space because they were good at falling deep and in some situations he was a bit unfortunate, like slipping when he had a good opportunity to score. The game was played in a good rhythm where Sassuolo created some problems for us. We also had to think about the team balance, Mauro did not get that many chances but he did not move that much, because we had some opportunities.”

What about the San Siro atmosphere?

“You could feel the presence of the kids, voices that were entertained no matter what the situation was. There was also fans from other teams that was great to see.”
