Inter manager Luciano Spalletti explained the reasoning behind his system change for the 1-0 loss to Torino that saw Inter change to a 3-5-2.

“I changed the wingers with two strikers, because I didn’t have many wingers at my disposal. Perisic is slightly unwell, we risked Matteo Politano at the end even though he wasn’t well either, while Keita is out. We made a different choice, based on physicality and not losing individual duels, so we could create chances for the front two. We got a couple of situations wrong, then when Toro clammed up after the goal, it became more difficult,” he said in an interview with Sky Sport post-match.

“Now we have to get back to the class room and start over and find a game that we want to develop in a more orderly way. After 1-0 the players tended to keep the ball to themselves in a way that was not needed. In another way, we failed to maintain the strength that we know we have, everyone must stick to their specific task.”

The Nerazzurri boss also spoke on Ivan Perisic, a player who has put in a transfer request as per Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta.

“It is simple, like I said yesterday. Players can say what they want. They are employees, they have signed contracts and in order to leave, they need someone willing to pay for them. They can not go away for free and with their pay still with Inter. But like Marotta said, if you do not want to play then you will stay out of the squad and I have no problems with that. When a player does not think he can contribute to the team, he helps by staying away.”
