After the elimination from the Coppa Italia on a penalty shoot-out against Lazio, Inter coach Luciano Spalletti stopped by Inter TV to share his thoughts on the defeat.

“In the first half I think we got a bit stressed by the crowd wanting us to attack more and more. Lazio counter attacked well with good runs. In the second half it was another type of game. Anyone could have won it, an entertaining match with a lot of chances for both teams.”

Is some mental work needed now?

“It is a pity how the game developed, the commitment, the heart. No blame on the team, we did what we had to do with some minor details going wrong. But in some way the guys deserved to bring this victory home, something that makes it a bit easier coping with this loss. The players are now in the locker room with their heads down, they gave everything they had.”

Any analogies with what went wrong in the beginning of the season? Is it possible for a streak of wins now, like back then?

“Yes, but we do not think about starting a winning streak. We have to start with one. Now we start thinking about the next game without looking too far in the future. One thing at a time.”

Anything about Cedric who also took one of the penalties?

“He is good, he can handle both feet very well and has a frequency of steps that puts the opponent in trouble in both phases. He lacks some of the characteristics of a right winger but he is a temperamental character that gives us alternatives.”
