Following the defeat against Bologna, Luciano Spalletti’s future seemed to be hanging in the balance. In an attempt to keep the support of the fans and the motivation of his players, he asked the directors to make a pubic statement.

Beppe Marotta did this yesterday, putting rumours regarding Antonio Conte’s immediate take over to bed  and acknowledging that some of the blame should be put on the players, although he says the players are aware of their problems and are working with Spalletti to resolve them.

However, according to Corriere dello Sport, this does not mean that the possibility of Antonio Conte coaching Inter has been completely disregarded. It’s merely a delay, to the end of the season when Spalletti’s results will be analysed. The objectives have been reassessed but if Spalletti wants to keep his job, he’ll have to over deliver in the Europa League. Beppe warned this: “Managers, coaches, players, we are all under scrutiny. There are objectives still to meet and then at the end of the season we will make our decisions.”

The goal of Inter is to qualify for the Champions League and until this is put at risk, Spalletti will remain coach of Inter. Although, management are expecting a positive result in Parma because after two straight defeats, Inter’s rivals have closed the gap and this objective would then be at risk but luckily for Spalletti at this point of the season there is still plenty of time.
