After the obligatory television interview tour, Inter coach Luciano Spalletti spoke at the post game press conference in order to comment on a most important win against a hard Sampdoria side.

Firstly he was asked about Lautaro Martinez who again stood in for Mauro Icardi as the starting striker.

“My opinion about Lautaro hasn’t changed, because now I know him well and he knows his teammates well. He has character, strength, and we have to remember that he has played two games in four days. He is the kind of player that, although he is 10 metres behind the defender, he still makes the run in order to put pressure on the defence. He has a tremendous amount of energy and has the possibility to give 100%.

“As a starting player he also had to discover the role of Icardi and also to remind the people that believed in him why they did it. During the first half he was a bit held back, partly because of the knock he suffered against Rapid Vienna, a knock that kept him out of training this weekend, his start wasn’t as clear-cut as people may think. During the second half when he was a bit more in the game, he was a tank.”

He then spoke on Radja Nainggolan who scored the winning goal.

“Tonight I am very satisfied with his performance, because he showed everyone why he is considered such a great player. So, apart from a small blackout against Rapid Vienna, today he made another improvement.”

He was then asked if he felt that the wingers could have made more of an impact than they did.

“We will get better but now we just have to be more clinical because we come from a tough period. It is a normal reaction that when you come from a bad moment, you aren’t as successful. Something that we have already seen and that is a sign that we have to work harder and also work with the mentality of every player. I think that something happened today, especially after the crowd helped us when they got back to 1-1 almost immediately after our go-ahead goal.”

He concluded the press conference by speaking on the situation of Icardi.

“I am someone that tries to do whatever we have decided to do. The words from Marotta reflects my mood and my standing to this affair. We are all in the same boat, me included. All of Inter’s components are in the same boat. What Marotta said is what Inter said.”
