Last night, Luciano Spalletti publicly asked ex-captain, Mauro Icardi to make more of an effort reintegrating himself back into the group after his break down upon being told he would no longer be captain after a unanimous decision.

In his post-match interview, Spalletti said: “I’m glad Mauro came to the stadium tonight, but I would of been even happier if he had come to the dressing room after to celebrate and difficult and important victory with his teammates. More steps need to be taken before things can go back. He needs to make amends with the group and be happy that he plays for this club.”

According to Tuttosport, these words send a clear signal to Mauro Icardi. The team still expect some form of gesture before he can start playing again. From the pre-match interview given by Beppe Marotta, the relationship between Icardi and the club has already been resolved: “I have read that there is a lot of tension between myself and Mauro, but this is completely false. As it should, our decision hurt him greatly but it was not disciplinary. I explained it to him, that this decision was made for the benefit of the club as a whole.”

Now Icardi must return to the group in harmony and work to be ready as soon as possible for Spalletti as Inter continue their busy schedule of Europa League and Serie A.
