Mauro Icardi will not sign a contract renewal with Inter unless he is re-made the captain of the club, at least according to a report from Corriere dello Sport.

Icardi was stripped of the Inter’s captaincy close to two weeks with the club stating it was a decision made for the good of the team.

Without the captain’s armband on his arm, Icardi will also refuse to play through any pain he has, something he seemingly did on more than occasion while in possession of the armband.

The 26-year-old alerted the club of pain in his knee and he underwent testing last week which showed no change to the tests that players are always put through at the start of pre-season to judge their condition.

He has missed the Nerazzurri’s past four games and a case could be made that Inter have not missed him as the team appear to be more united and have recorded three wins and a draw in his absence.
