Regardless of what happens between Inter, Mauro Icardi does not want to leave Italy and therefore, in the Summer priority would go to offers made from those within Serie A.
Corriere dello Sport believes this and in their eyes it would mean that Juventus and Napoli are the two most likely destinations.
Samir Handanovic and Beppe Marotta made it clear on Sunday and yesterday that they did want to keep talking about the situation with Mauro Icardi. Wanda has also booked a holiday to Dubai, which will hopefully allow Inter to get a few days of peace from all the speculation and work on preparing their offer for his contract renewal.
This will be the deciding factor in Icardi’s willingness to stay and at the moment the signs do not look good. It is believed that Marotta and Ausilio already know that it will not be accepted by Wanda who is demanding 10 million, while they plan on offering 6.5 net plus bonuses and are even asking for his image rights. The release clause is not considered important because it will be known whether or not Maurito wants to stay from his reaction to the renewal.
Wanda is the only one concerned by it because in the case that they refuse the contract, Mauro and his family do not want to leave Italy, but the release clause is currently only valid for foreign teams. Mauro is sad and disappointed, despite all the struggles he’s had since joining the club this has truly broken him. Management must also evaluate what they intend to do with him for the rest of the season. Currently the decision would be to keep him sidelined for the rest of the season but still pay him, similarly to what Jiangsu Suning did with Ramires.
Meanwhile, Icardi continues his physiotherapy and is still not ruling out the need for an operation, much like what was done with Raul Albiol. It’s medically known as a cleaning of the patellar tendon to resolves problems of tendinopathy. The physiotherapy will continue until March 7th as set by Inter’s medical staff, hoping that this will solve the problem. However, if the results are negative Icardi could either continue the therapy or be submitted for surgery and would therefore sit out the rest of the season anyway.
The exam undertaken by Inter last week did not deny that there was problem but that stated that since playing with it, there has not been any worsening. The player also has the option to seek consultation in Barcelona by a specialist who also examined the knee last Summer, with permission from Inter, of course.
