Respected Italian football journalist Mario Sconcerti has discussed the ongoing saga between Inter and Mauro Icardi, particularly the recent news that a third party in the shape of a lawyer has been brought in to help try put an end to it.

“I am honestly amazed and I am learning a lot from the Icardi case,” he explained in an interview with CalcioMercato.com.

“This case demonstrates the big changes in the current footballing world. There is a player who does not want to play for his club and a lawyer – Nicoletti – was called in and he must agree with the club and the player but this completely erases the relationship between employer and employee.

He continued: “This is a sign that footballers have become bigger than the clubs. In the days of Boniperti something like this would never have happened.

“I am sincerely interested in the evolution of this situation and I think it will tell us a lot about the future of football.”
