It was the perfect weekend for Lautaro Martinez as his goal, assist and general performance secured his place in Inter’s first team and now he is on international duty with Lionel Messi in preparation for Argentina’s Copa America challenge.

Before he was the second striker, called off the bench by Luciano Spalletti in the dying minutes of games or as a starter against weaker opponents and maybe he would still be if the Mauro Icardi soap opera hadn’t of happened, but this had nothing to do with Lautaro so thinking about it is pointless because we live in the present and in the present his future with Inter is clear, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

He will be an important part of Inter and Argentina for years to come. Even with Icardi’s return it will be difficult for the former captain to take his place without a system change which seems unlikely with Spalletti because of his preferred style of play and because Spalletti has been the most angry with Icardi throughout this drama.

In five games without Icardi in Serie A he has played the full 90 and scored two goals, but beyond this he has helped the team’s overall game. Now, after his exclusion from Argentina’s squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Lautaro can dream of lifting the Copa America.
