Inter manager Luciano Spalletti shared his thoughts on Inter’s performance during the 3-1 triumph over Frosinone.
“It was a very difficult and important game in a fundamental moment. All pressure was on us, because we had to win, they instead had no pressure since nothing in particular would happen if they lost, since they were playing against Inter. Tonight we proved to be a serious team and this was a big win,” he started his post-match press conference.
He then went on to give his version of what happened to the team in the second half.
“When the opponents start to break up it is time to start becoming even more bad in order to finally put our mark on the game. Instead we let Frosinone take advantage of the fact that we couldn’t profit on their slump. And they merit coming back into the game.”
He was then asked what was the most beautiful moment between the hug from Icardi to Perisic after the penalty or the assist from Vecino?
“Both, it’s a symptom of being there, of friendship, collaboration, of taking the maximum beyond a certain point. It is only fair to highlight that.”
Spalletti was then asked if he believed Frosinone could have caused Inter more problems.
“They know what to do, and in the second half they changed their midfield. They were more dangerous with more quality and we lost balls that let them create difficulties for us. In some sense we did a good job defending ourselves. Then, with their pressure getting higher and higher, we could take advantage of that by trying to go for the space behind them.”
Perisic took the penalty this evening over traditional taker Icardi but Spalletti explained that this was decided prior to the match.
“They talked about it and came up to that solution together. Like: “You take it, because you seem more eager to score.” Another thing is to be available and that sometimes you don’t have to tell the players everything, they sort it out by themselves. The smartest one is the one who says smart things.”
He concluded by speaking on the final games of the campaign.
“After the other teams won, we had to maintain the distance. A lot of allusions were made this week, I said that the accounts are done at the end of the season but you guys want to take the discussion wherever you want to.”
