After the official press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game against Roma, Inter coach Luciano Spalletti stopped by Sky Sport to give his analysis of the big game at San Siro.
“The first thought that comes to mind is a feeling of wanting to win this game. It’s an extremely important game and we are playing for a place in the Champions League. Then of course there are my memories from my time in Roma, both on a personal and a professional level, something that I will never forget.”
Could this be Inter’s match point for the Champions League spot?
“From now on until the championship ends and we are not mathematically qualified for the Champions League, every game is a match point. Being in a place where we fight for one of the first four spots with six rounds to go means that we have reduced the gap from previous seasons and that we have worked properly. We can compare ourselves with teams like Roma and Napoli who both always end up at the podium.”
Will we see both Lautaro and Icardi play tomorrow?
“It’s always the same discussion, playing with only one player doesn’t bring home the three points, there are ten other players that have to be on the pitch as well. We will put the best eleven possible out that can still remain balanced in order to be better than our opponents. Borja Valero could start the game, something that we will decide during the day and before the match. There are many things to consider, injured players and players that risk suspension should they get a yellow card.”
Tottenham and Barcelona are still in the Champions, Eintracht Frankfurt is in the semifinal of the Europa League, what are your thoughts about that?
“Something I talked about during the press conference, it all depends on how you go into the cup games. The exit against Frankfurt, for me, is not embarrassing, in that moment we had too many difficulties just like other teams that have left the competition have had. Also you had to be certain that the results in the cup games didn’t affect the championship.”
