Inter coach Luciano Spalletti had the following to say at the official post game press conference after the 1-1 draw against Roma at the San Siro.

How much closer to the Champions League objective are you after this game?

“From a result point of view nothing has changed, there is one game less to play but at home you should win.”

Is Lautaro your first choice for the attack?

“He has trained well and is doing well. He is a football player with a lot of potential. I think that the game evolved in a way that made it more and more important to have a penalty area guy like Mauro to sub in. That’s why I made that choice.”

Do you agree that Borja Valero had a great game?

“Not only in the constructive phase, but also from a defensive point of view he had a great game.”

You saw the danger of being unbalanced? Did Roma seem a bit afraid?

“Lautaro returned from a serious injury and he started to stretch. Instead of risking another injury I had the option to put Keita on and also to put Joao Mario on the wing. I could have done that, but Politano made a good job wearing Kolarov down in the defensive phase which I thought could bring us good things.”

Nainggolan wasn’t at his best tonight. Was that due to a physiological reason or a tactical one or maybe even a psychological one?

“I don’t know what kind of problem he had. But of course I agree, he didn’t do much.”

Nainggolan seems a bit blocked at the moment, as opposed to Perisic who has had a kind of a reaction. How do you explain that?

“It’s bad, because he really felt for this game. He trained well, but sometimes your head and the mental condition you are currently in kind of gives an opposite effect. I let him stay on for the remainder of the first half in order to see if something would change during halftime.”
