Inter coach Luciano Spalletti stopped by Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, after the 2-0 win in the Serie A against Chievo at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district.
The team showed tonight that they could give what it takes to take the lead in a moment where things could have gotten complicated. Is this a sign of maturity?
“Yes, this is maturity. To have a clear head and make the right choices in every action. When everything works, you start taking things for granted and all of a sudden you start losing the ball and losing distances. Instead we were organized and played the game we had to play. We created a lot of opportunities and could secure the three points, not without problems though.”
“We had to move the ball from one side to the other because of how they played their defensive line, and yes there were some passes missed or passes that arrived with the wrong velocity. This is something we can do better.”
Against Napoli we will see an Inter that can close this season out?
“For sure, that game will be different, with more space in order to find passes with speed and thereby getting the opportunity to finish chances earlier. Napoli will put pressure on us and tonight we weren’t that good in the space between defense and midfield, having trouble finding the right guy to pass. Against Napoli the spaces will be the same and the game will be more open.”
This team has made a lot of progress and can handle difficulties better at the same time as it shows more maturity?
“That is true, there have been some games that brought us problems since they were games where we had to bring home three points, but they are a lot less than before. Now there are no behavioral problems or situations where the team gets blocked. But in the past there are a few games where the results have penalized us, I agree.”
Do you have any idea of who Robert Redford is?
“Guys, for three months now Gazzetta dello Sport has been saying the same things. Whoever has quality says it only once, to me instead you always ask me the same things. So I am rude if I don’t respond?”
But do you have any idea of where the source of this comes from?
“No, but now they are making very specific insults. But I am not nervous, I continue to defend myself and Inter. They have been doing the same thing to Inter for 8 years, I am telling all Inter fans to defend themselves. Marotta is trying to do the best for Inter, but he sees that there is disparity in how we are treated and how others are treated. They are mean, offensive. This isn’t normal.”
Is it possible to bring the English model of technical management to Italy?
“No, it’s very difficult. Not even what happens at Ajax can be done here. In order to mature, a player has to be allowed to make mistakes, make decisions that could risk the objective and here is when things are starting to get complicated.”
