Inter’s CEO Beppe Marotta today promised supporters the club will ‘raise the bar’ following the arrival of Antonio Conte as head coach.
Marotta joined fellow chief executive Alessandro Antonello in presenting Inter’s preseason training camp in Lugano, which will begin on 8 July.
The 62-year-old refused to be drawn on Mauro Icardi’s future or other transfer targets but assured Inter would be looking to move forward from last season’s fourth-place finish in Serie A.
“Conte will take us to a more important level,” Marotta told reporters at a press conference this morning.
“He’s a great coach who’s won a lot in Italy and England and knows how to get the best out of his players.
“It’s premature to talk about the squad, though. We’ll present that in due course and I prefer not to talk about it now out of correctness.
“Good players aren’t enough to win things, you also need a club which is strong from a managerial and technical perspective.
“The aim is to raise the bar and make a step forward compared to the past. We’re going to give our best and everyone must look ahead with optimism.”
Marotta confirmed Inter would look to challenge Juventus for the Scudetto next season but warned they could only do so much.
“Only one team can win the league,” he reminded everyone.
“If other clubs carry out important transfer business it’s difficult to compete. We want to compete, though, because it’s right for us to try and improve.”
