Inter are unlikely to complete any deal for Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku until the start of August, according to Il Giorno.

Lukaku is widely reported to have chosen the Nerazzurri as his next destination and Belgium coach Roberto Martinez appeared to confirm as much earlier this week.

However, negotiations with United could prove difficult as the Red Devils show no sign of dropping their initial €70-million asking price.

Inter will prioritise signing Edin Dzeko from Roma before stepping up their pursuit of the Belgian international.

Dzeko has given his word to Inter and is expected to join before the start of preseason training on 8 July, although no agreement is imminent.

Inter have not yet met Roma’s asking price but are likely to finalise a deal for a fee between €15-20 million.

Nicolo Barella could arrive at San Siro before Dzeko but Cagliari are not budging from their €50 million request.

Inter have offered €35 million in cash and plan to offer Federico Dimarco or Alessandro Bastoni on loan in a part-exchange deal.

The Nerazzurri remain close to Hertha Berlin midfielder Valentino Lazaro, meanwhile, although the German club still want €25 million.

Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio have offered €18 million plus €2 million in add-ons, with the paper assuring the distance between the clubs’ valuations is ‘not insurmountable’.
