Nicolò Barella rejected an offer to join Roma during the last few weeks because the midfielder only wants Inter, Sky Sport revealed last night.

The Giallorossi’s cash offer was higher than Inter’s and included permanent deals for left-back Luca Pellegrini and forward Gregoire Defrel.

Barella once again told Roma he was only interested in joining the Nerazzurri, though, and kept his word by declining their advances.

Inter remain distant from securing a deal for the 22-year-old and will have to meet Cagliari again to try and reach an agreement.

Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio do not seemingly want to raise their offer any further and began looking at alternative options this week.

Sassuolo midfielder Stefano Sensi would not cost as much and is thought to be popular with Antonio Conte, although Milan remain favourites to sign him.

Barella played for Italy’s under-21s on Wednesday as the Azzurrini lost to Poland at the European Championships.
