Inter and Milan will finally submit their planning application to rebuild San Siro today, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The clubs have been working together on a shared ‘modern and avant-garde’ stadium since November, which they wish to build on top of the current car park.

The Nerazzurri’s corporate chief executive Alessandro Antonello forewarned the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala of their plans in a meeting with Milan president Paolo Scaroni and CEO Ivan Gazidis last week.

“San Siro is a symbolic venue in Milan and recent polls suggest the majority of residents do not want the stadium to be knocked down,” Gazzetta reported this morning.

“Inter and Milan cannot wait too long to redo the ground, though, because according to their plans it will become a key financial asset which generates at least €50 million in revenue every year.”

Sala has repeatedly stated he would prefer to renew the current San Siro over building a new stadium, reminding the clubs that San Siro cannot be touched until it has hosted the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The first operative step will be taken today but the road to reaching an agreement remains very long.
