Manchester United are reportedly prepared to keep Romelu Lukaku if Inter fail to meet their €83 million asking price, even if the player is deeply unhappy to stay.

The Sun today assured the Red Devils’ executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward had no intention of negotiating for the striker.

Inter have offered United a loan with obligation to buy, including a copious sum of money to be paid up front, with payment split into two or three installments.

Woodward will not tolerate any discount or any delay in payment, though, reiterating that only €83 million immediately will suffice.

Inter have threatened to turn towards Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani, while Lukaku continues to push for a move to the Nerazzurri.

But United are showing no signs of budging, meaning they risk having an unhappy player among their ranks next season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would also have less money to use as he seeks to reinforce his squad, following last season’s disappointing sixth-place finish in the Premier League.

Inter will play United in the International Champions Cup on Saturday, but Antonio Conte does not appear to be any closer to signing the player he wanted above all others this summer.
