Inter will have fewer visiting supporters cheering against them this season when the Nerazzurri play their home games at San Siro.

That is because six areas of the stadium’s third tier, reserved for away fans, will be closed to the public for the 2019-20 campaign, following recommendations from local authorities.

Abnormal vibrations were detected in that zone of the ground on 7 April, during Inter’s 0-0 draw against Atalanta, leading to more detailed checks over the summer.

Ansa assured readers this was not a health and safety issue, instead describing it as an attempt to prevent any potential fear among supporters.

Technicians have guaranteed it is ‘normal’ for San Siro to move slightly during matches, removing any serious concerns about the ground’s structure.

However, it does mean sections 349, 351 and 352 of the ‘green’ tier, along with 307, 309 and 310 in the ‘blue’ tier, will be shut this year.

Inter and AC Milan are looking to knock down San Siro and rebuild a more modern complex next to the current ground.

The clubs submitted a Technical and Economic Feasibility Study to the Municipality of Milan last month, with a response to their plans expected by early November.
