Mauro Icardi is excited by the prospect of playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Bianconeri are the striker’s preferred choice if he agrees to leave Inter this summer, albeit this does not seem at all imminent for now.

Ronaldo believes Icardi would be an ideal partner in attack and has approved a move for the Nerazzurri’s former captain.

“Juventus have been thinking about forming this partnership for a while and certain clues in the transfer market give you the impression it will happen,” the paper reported this morning.

“Ronaldo has already given his vote of confidence as he wants to play with a striker who can open up space for him and help tire out opposition defenders.

“Icardi, meanwhile, has an historic opportunity to kick-start a career which is in ruins. He wants Juventus not least because he wants Ronaldo.”

Despite Juve’s temptation to unite Icardi and Ronaldo, it is by no means guaranteed they will manage to get a deal for Icardi over the line.

Moving Maurito to Turin would require Beppe Marotta and Fabio Paratici to negotiate, for instance, while the pair are no longer on speaking terms.

Icardi’s character and presence within the dressing room is another question mark Juve must deal with, following reports of mass unrest at Inter last year.

What’s for sure is that Antonio Conte has no intention of giving the 26-year-old another chance in Milan, having excluded him from every preseason friendly so far this summer.
