Antonio Conte may not have told Ivan Perisic to leave Inter after all, contrary to reports in Italy’s newspapers this morning.
Various sources on Wednesday suggested the Croatian had been placed on the transfer market, having failed to convince Conte either as a wing-back or as a second striker.
However, FcInterNews.it insist Conte is happy with Perisic’s contribution in attack and has never discarded the 2018 World Cup finalist.
Christian Liotta reported: “Conte has publicly lauded Perisic for his commitment and work rate during Inter’s matches against Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham, despite offering some criticism for certain tactical issues.
“Inter will consider any big offers which arrive for Perisic, but if nothing happens Conte will be more than happy to keep the player, having been very happy with his attitude so far.”
Perisic helped Conte solve Inter’s striker shortage during their preseason tour in Asia, starting alongside Sebastiano Esposito in an unconventional front two.
He is not suited to the 3-5-2 system now being used but that does not mean he is destined to leave in a hurry.
Perisic scored nine goals in all competitions for Inter last season, creating eight assists.
